For me, it’s a further step forward compared to the already excellent A Pasha's Abstinence. The quality of the recording is good, the dynamic range is wonderful (“The Sparks” and “The Scorching” analyzed with the JRiver plugin show a nice DR15 with the Pleasurize Music Foundation system). Music without dynamic compression is a caress for the ears, and for the brain. It should always be like that. Well done!
The Furnace is SS3’s third recording following critically acclaimed releases of ‘A Pasha’s Abstinence’ (2014) and Humanized (2013). This time around the trio proposes a five part suite of new storytelling: the music follows the journey of the improvisational idea from its conception through the furnace of composition, group play, interpretation, and more.
By far the most exciting group around. This album pushes jazz on when so many current artists seem reflective and honouring the past. Not that Dinosaur doesn't, but they infuse their sound with everything else that's going on, and end up making a jazz album that has knowledge of the past but the heartbeat of the now. wing commander beggsie
The groove is so strong with these guys, all of them sound spectacular (!the drums!) & everything flows so smoothly throughout the whole record. Keeps me dancing the whole time. Def a masterpiece! Sergio Perezalonso
